MOT pass rate & common faults
MOT pass rate by year — broadly steady since 2020:
Excludes 2024 — that year covers a different number of tests from the rest of the series, so the rate is not comparable with the years shown.
Most common failure areas — share of failed tests citing each area (a car can fail on more than one), from 35,711 sampled fails:
| Suspension | 22.4% |
| Lamps, Reflectors and Electrical Equipment | 19.6% |
| Tyres | 19.2% |
| Brakes | 18.0% |
| Noise, Emissions and Leaks | 10.9% |
MOT figures contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 — DVSA anonymised MOT tests and results (Great Britain), class 4 (cars & light vehicles), 2024. Pass rate is measured across first (initial) MOT tests only; a pass counts a certificate issued outright or after minor repair at the station. Grouped by generic model.

About the Audi TT
The Audi TT is a design icon and an accessible modern classic. The first-generation 8N (1998–2006) turned heads with its Bauhaus styling and offered turbocharged four-cylinder and later V6 engines, in front-wheel-drive and quattro all-wheel-drive form; the later 8J and 8S refined the formula. Early cars are now genuinely cheap, so condition and history are what separate a bargain from a money pit. Check service history (cam belts on belt-driven engines), electrics and signs of neglect, and favour a well-maintained quattro for all-weather ability.
Audi TT: FAQs
Is the Audi TT a modern classic?
Yes — the first-generation 8N in particular is recognised as a design icon and is increasingly collectable, while remaining affordable. Clean, low-owner examples with full history are the ones to watch.
Should I buy a front-wheel-drive or quattro TT?
The quattro all-wheel-drive cars offer more grip and all-weather ability and are generally more sought after, while front-drive cars are lighter and cheaper. Condition and history matter more than drivetrain alone.
What should I check when buying an Audi TT?
Prioritise a full service history (including cam-belt work on belt-driven engines), healthy electrics and no signs of neglect or crash damage. On cheap cars, a documented history is worth paying a premium for.
